John Flynn Place Museum and Art Gallery

pays tribute to Reverend John Flynn and his team for their dedication and success in overcoming isolation and bringing communication, education, and health to remote Australia. It commemorates Alfred Traeger “the genius who gave a voice to rural Australia” and how he invented the wireless pedal radio. John Flynn Place houses the first household set installed in 1929.

Listen to recorded conversations between the doctor and stations over the radio. Check out the medical kits the remote places have, and the ‘Where does it hurt?’ chart commonly used when communicating with the doctor. John Flynn Place houses a restored vehicle that is replica to one Rev. Flynn drove around the ‘Curry, and a quarter scale replica to the first plane ‘Victory’ used by the flying doctors, and leased from Qantas. There is a rear courtyard with tables and chairs and a memorial wall honoring some of the pioneer pilots, doctors and padres. There is also a lovely lawn front courtyard with tables and seating making it great for relaxing. Only a block from the shopping centre of town, you can take the path through Florence Clark

Park with water fun and shady picnic areas.
